Guided costume tour, Neuchâtel

"Right from the beginning of the visit, our guide – dressed in period costume – took us on a spellbinding journey through a thousand years of Neuchâtel's history. Starting out from the ultra-modern district around the rail station, we walked down to the Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts) quarter with its huge buildings of yellow stone. Then we entered the old mediaeval town with streets that snake around the castle, through a district that abounds in magnificent palaces – here, they are called private mansions. Each of us had been given a photo of a detail that we had to find during our walk: that encouraged us to look upwards and admire these houses. This experience made me want to return to Neuchâtel for some of the other tours offered by the specialized guides to heritage sites – such as a route focusing on windows, or a visit to the eco-district around the station."
