"Although St-Imier has only kept a few reminders of its distant past due to the three major fires which destroyed the town in 1839, 1843 and 1856, there are still some buildings that predate this period, and I found that it really is worthwhile to discover them. I also enjoyed spending a little time in the streets, discovering buildings and museums as I strolled through this peaceful place where urban life meets nature."

  • St-Imier underwent a total transformation in the 18th century when the watchmaking era dawned.
  • Watchmaking itself experienced a profound change with the establishment of the first factories: Leonidas in 1842, TAG-Heuer in 1860, Longines in 1866 and Breitling in 1884.
