"On holiday with my children in the Jura, I was looking for something to keep us busy for a day. As I was searching online, I came across the site of Autruches Aventure in Lajoux and we organised the trip straight away. The next day, we set off to meet Joseph Noirjean, who showed us his ostrich farm. The children were impressed to see the little ostrich chicks, some of them still in their eggs. It is incredible to think that these adorable fledglings grow into such large birds. Joseph explained that ostriches defend themselves by scratching with their claws and the resulting wounds can be fatal. The males are more beautiful than the females, to attract mates of course, and how could you resist eyes like that or a flutter of their feathers... We were even present for a kind of courtship display - the children were amazed!"

Good to know
Joseph Noirjean also takes visitors to search for fossils in the area surrounding Lajoux. Children will particularly enjoy this activity. Note that palaeontology camps are held during the summer holidays.
