Via Jura Regio (route no. 41)

  • Hiking - Via Jura Regio - Balade de Séprais
  • Hiking - Via Jura Regio - Ajoie, Porrentruy
  • Hiking - Via Jura Regio - Courgenay, la Roche Percée (Pierced Rock)

"We set off on the "cross-border" route of the Via Jura Regio, remembering that the path we were to follow on this Sunday in spring was once the shortest link between Basle and Porrentruy at the time of the Prince-Bishops (from 1528 to 1792). In our age of pervasive motoring, we set off quietly and calmly towards Les Aidjolats with our rucksacks on our backs and our hiking sticks in our hand after a friendly greeting from the customs officer. The descent towards Pleujouse seems like a stopover in the Middle Ages. From its watchtower, the castle offers a beautiful view of the Ajoie. On the way through, we admired the orchards of Charmoille (I think the trees were damsons). Then we reached Porrentruy, a charming town whose stones bear witness to its heritage as a small episcopal capital - the German-speaking princes certainly had French tastes! This outing is recommended to anyone who loves nature and is excited by history."
